Successful sport managers must understand a variety of components in the sport industry. One of those areas involves facility and event management. Another includes understanding consumer behavior and employing effective marketing.One way to learn about these areas and to begin to understand their complexities is to ask questions and discuss these topics with professionals in the field. Upon completing this assignment, hopefully, you will gain the knowledge and skills pertinent to a sport management position.

For this assignment, you are asked to visit another local facility in your area to identify and determine the day-to-day operations and procedures performed at the facility and to conduct a personal interview with the director or manager.If this is not an option for you, you may elect to conduct a personal interview with the director or manager via phone,email, Skype, Zoom, Join Me, or any other conference-friendly application that will yield the answers to questions posed in the interview. Create at least eight questions to ask this individual. The following sport-related topics are suggestions that may assist you as you generate your questions:

  • sport management responsibilities;
  • responsibilities and duties of other various positions;
  •  best practices/processes in sport consumer behavior;
  • marketing and advertising strategies;
  • effects/influences of media relations;
  • communication techniques;

In recent days, sports are increasingly becoming part of our society. Notably, sports are not only a source of entertainment, but also a source of income for sports managers and athletes. Sports management largely deals with sports and recreation. Sports managers are also widely known as general, managers considering that they handle matters for sports teams and athletes in different sports general managers both at the college and professional levels. Sports managers ensure that the interests of their teams and their clients are prioritized by negotiating contracts and trade deals (Boland, n.d).  This assignment will focus on the interview conducted with the help of John Adams to provide more knowledge in the field of sports management. Mr. Adam had been the team manager for the Uzuri Football Club for the last decade. During his tenure, Mr. Adam has overseen the promotion of the team from p [laying the second division to the premier league.  Additionally, through his efforts, he has been able to negotiate good sponsorship for the team.

What are the primary responsibilities of sports manager?

The basic duties of a sports manager are to organize and schedule their clients that range from organizations to individual athletes.  As a result, they should make it easier for their clients to focus on winning rather than worrying about the business or the organization side of sports.

What are the necessary skills to succeed in the sports industry?

Some of the notable skills that are essential in this industry include communication skills, organization skills, public relations skills, marketing and negotiation skills as well as business skills to cut and close deals with other companies and sponsors (Moore, n.d).

What are the responsibilities and duties of other positions in a sports industry?

Different stakeholders in the sports industry have different duties and responsibilities depending on their position and nature of their work. For example, the coaches play an important role more than just coaching considering that they assist athletes to develop to their potential while sports agents try to negotiate a contract for their clients.

What is the marketing and advertising strategies that are often used in the sports industry?

With the recent introduction of technology in the world today, it is increasingly becoming easier for teams use technology to advertise, market and engage their fans.  Some of the major marketing strategies used today include digital advertising where fans can follow their teams on their laptops, mobile advertising as well as the use of social media to win over the more fan base (Appenzeller & Appenzeller, 2008).

What are the most common communication techniques used in the sports industry?

Communication is the key to a successful sports organization. Examples of communication techniques used include open meeting where all stakeholders in an organization and discuss matters in hand, one on one communication with an individual player and use of presentation to explain a concept.

What are the effects of media on sports?

The media can have both positive and negative impacts on sports depending on how it is used.  The media can promote both an individual player and team by promoting its values and activities while at the same time destroy a team. Media can rally support behind a team (Appenzeller & Appenzeller, 2008).

What are the best practices in the sports industry?

All sports should incorporate the core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, faith, and care not only for their team members but also for the opposite teams and opponents. Good sports practices should encourage maximum participation, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

What are the impacts of sports in the society?

Sports can have an economic, cultural, legal and social impact on the society.  For example, it is a source of employment for different people, helps to promote the culture of a community and country at the international level, leads to integration and promotion of peace as well as changing criminal behavior and mind of youths (Boland, n.d).

The above interview has helped me understand what it requires to be a successful manager while at the same time promoting my skills and knowledge regarding the sports industry not only in the community but also at the international level.
