In recent days, sports have become one of the uniting factors, not only nationally but internationally. However, for any sporting activity to have a maximum impact not only on the player, but also to the spectators and ordinary citizens in a country, there is the need for ethical behavior. The primary objective of sportsmanship is more 6than winning as it seeks to pursue victory with honor by giving their best to the sporting activity of their choice. Ethics in sports require an individual to have key merit that includes fairness, integrity, responsibility, and respect. All players and their coaches, as well as the technical bench, must follow predetermined rules and regulations of their respective sport (Baghurst & Parish, 2010). This assignment will focus on identifying and describing the importance and roles of ethics in sports.

From time to time, there have been cases of unethical behavior from players as well as the authorities in major sports in the world today. Notably, sports have a substantial impact on the people who mean that players should be keen on what they do on and off the pitch. Ethics have and continue to play an important role in sports management and administration. Some of the major importance of ethics in sport include showing respect for teammates, opponents, coaches. Notably, all athletes and coaches must not try to gain unfair competitive advantage over their opposition or create lumpy  playing fields that violate the integrity of the sport (Stofer, Schaffer, & Rosenthal, 2010).  Finally, ethics have been known to promote responsibility among the coaches and athletes by ensuring that they are up to date on the rules and regulations governing their respective sport.

Different unethical and illegal behaviors in the workplace call for different steps and actions by the team manager.  Notably, no one single course of action can be said to suit all the situations and events in the workplace. As a result, a team manager may create policies and practices to govern all the activities and operations of the business.  There is the need for organizations and teams to research, develop and document policies and processes around defining, establishing and reporting ethical violations. Notably, the designing of the policy alone is not enough, and the team manager must practice what he preaches (Cleret, McNamee, & Page, 2015). Therefore, he should lead by example in promoting ethical behavior in the organization. Another viable strategy that can be implemented in an organization is hiring the right people as well as developing and promoting the understanding of all members of staff and athletes regarding ethical behavior in their profession. The recruitment and selection of the right people to fill positions in a company can have a substantial difference in the ethical behavior of other employees in the company. Moreover, helping all stakeholders understand the need of acting ethically in the organization as well as discouraging illegal behavior in the team can have a significant impact (Edgar, 2012). However, encouraging the employees to report cases of ethics violations and building staff understanding about ethics can have a huge impact on the ethical standards of the organization.

From the above-detailed discussion, it is easy to tell that ethics play an important role in determining the success and fairness of the sport. This means that ethics are an important part of the sports industry and a manager may use strategies such as hiring the right people as well as designing and implementing ethical policies and practices.
