Leadership Interview

Question 1

What attracted you to be a leader in the industry you are working?

Working in the healthcare industry gives me pleasure as I enjoy helping people who are in need as well as saving people to show them that in one way or another. Having lost my dad in a car accident, I swore that I would live the rest of my life helping save lives and that is the main reason I went to school to study medicine and help the needy and help maintain the required health standards.

Question 2

As a leader, what organizational change initiatives have you implemented in your organization?

Change is inevitable, and it is the duty of nurse leader and the leaders of the organization to prepare employees to adopt and integrate the change into the organizational culture. One of the organization change initiatives that I have implemented in my organization is the migration from analog to digital. During my tenure as the leader, I have overseen the movement from the use of traditional patient paper management to electronic patient records to increase the effectiveness, efficiency and the performance of individual employees as well that of the organization in general. The primary aim of this change is to improve the patient outcome while minimizing the cost of operations (Belletti, 2010).

Question 3

What was the biggest resistance to change?

The biggest challenge to this challenge was resistance from employees who were afraid of losing their employment. The introduction of the new health care record keeping meant that some of the clerks working in the organization would have to be released from their posts as only one person was necessary to maintain the records on a computer. Additionally, lack of the necessary skills to store, trace and retrieve patient’s records was a challenge. Therefore, the organization was forced to design a training program to train employees how to handle computers.

Question 4

Are there changes you have not been able to accomplish at your current organization, and why?

As the leader, it is my duty to make sure that my organization operates at the highest level possible. One of the changes that have proved difficult to implement is to implement a patient data security system. It is my duty to make sure that the patient data is fully protected. Employees are always attempting to circumvent the established security measures through unapproved practices and software putting the confidential information about the patients in jeopardy (In Tipton & In Nozaki, 2014). This is the major problem facing the company when it comes to implementing security to protect the patient data.

Question 5

What do you feel needs to be at the core of an organization to successfully initiate organizational change?

The collaboration of employees and nurse leaders is the key to organizational change. There is the need for the leader to establish good relations and cooperation between all members of the organization. The leader needs to bring all employees abroad to make sure that they understand the need for the change as well as the advantages that they are likely to enjoy the changes. Preparing them in advance regarding the upcoming changes reduces resistance while at the same time enhancing commitment.

Question 6

What advice do you have for leaders who are considering major change initiatives for their organization?

Leaders should be the agents of changes in the organization but should know that every employee is important in the organization for the change to be successful. Therefore, they should make sure that all members of the workforce are on the same page and leave the tasks and duties of implementing change to junior leaders and managers. The major responsibility of the leaders should be to provide the general direction and leave the duties of initiating change to employee leaders. However, they should monitor the changes to make sure that they are moving in the right direction
