Human Resource Management Annual Review

Performance is one of the important issues in an organization since it is a requirement that all employees maintain a high-performance rate.  Through performance appraisal, the employee with the help of the management or the investor can gauge the performance of an employee and decide the way forward. Often, after the performance appraisal, the management gives a constructive feedback to the employees where they point out areas of concern and where they should improve to make their work more appealing and efficient (Collings & Wood, 2009). In the given case, Jim has been a role model to many employees with the best performance for the past nine months.  However, for the past three months, he has developed a habit of coming late to work which has substantially affected the production line.

As the human resource manager,, it is my duty to find out what has been going on and why Jim has changed his behavior.  Below is the conversation of that I would have with Jim.

Me: Hello Jim, congratulations for being one of our best employees for the past nine months.   I would like you to know that as a company, we appreciate your efforts and time.  However, it has come to my attention that in the last three months you have been coming late to work.  There are some complaints claiming that your lateness has been affecting the production.  You can always talk to me when you have a problem.

Jim: Thank you, sir. I am sorry to disappoint you.  I have been experiencing some medical complications for the last four months, and currently, I am under medication.

Me: Jim you are one of my best employees.  You would have come directly to me and share your problems, and we could have found the solution together as a team.  We are a team and a big family who help each other. If the situation is critical, you can take some days off and be sure that you will be fully compensated.  I wish you a quick recovery and come back when you feel better.
